DES MOINES, Iowa, March 19, 2014 – Two of the world’s top 400 metres runners will feature in a show-down at the 105th running of the Drake Relays next month, in a rematch of the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia.

Organisers have announced that an elite field of competitors including the top two quarter-milers – LaShawn Merritt of the United States and Kirani James of Grenada for the Drake Relays scheduled for April 24-26.

“The 2014 elite fields already feature 17 athletes that have medaled at either the most recent Olympics, World Championships or both. One of the highlights that fans won’t want to miss is the men’s 400-meter Moscow World Championship Rematch on Friday night. That race will pit World Champion and the No. 1 ranked quarter-miler in the world, LaShawn Merritt, taking on the 2012 Olympic gold medalist and the world’s No. 2 ranked 400-meter specialist, Kirani James.”

That race will be one of the five Moscow World Championship Rematches staged on Friday night as part of Hy-Vee Night at the Drake Relays.

Four more will follow in the Saturday session, including the men’s shuttle hurdle relays that will match up the world’s top hurdlers into teams as they compete to shatter world records on the Blue Oval’s straightaway.

The women’s edition of the elite shuttle hurdle relay, featuring Lolo Jones, will be part of Friday’s Hy-Vee night at the Drake Relays.

As it has for more than a century, the Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee will once again feature the top high school competitors in the state of Iowa, a deep collegiate field and world-class competitions featuring modern-day track and field legends.

Single-session tickets for the Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee go on sale to the general public on Thursday, March 20, according to the organisers.

Fans can purchase tickets to one of the four available sessions online at www.DrakeRelays.org or by calling the Drake Athletic Ticket Office at 515-271-DOGS starting Thursday.

Single-session tickets for the Friday, April 25 sessions are available for $35 each with reduced pricing for Drake faculty/staff and youth. Tickets for the Saturday, April 26 session are $40 with a discounted price available for Drake faculty and staff. Tickets for the Thursday, April 24 Distance Carnival are $5.
