KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, April 6, 2013 – Grenada produced a solid batting display on Saturday to beat hosts St Vincent and the Grenadines by 174 runs in their final first round match of the Windward Islands Under 15 Cricket Tournament.
Led again by their captain Emmanuel Stewart, the Grenadians amassed 247 for 8 off 50 overs. Stewart, of the Hillsborough Secondary School (HSS), made 87 as he shared in a second wicket partnership of 111 with Johann Jeremiah (53) of the Presentation Brothers College (PBC).
Earlier, openers Jeremiah and Dejon Jeurakhan (27) of the St Mark’s Secondary School (SMSS) put on 59 runs for the first wicket. Ishamael Lett of the Grenada Boys’ Secondary School (GBSS) was unbeaten on 15 in the Grenadians’ innings.
In reply, the home team was bowled out for 73 off 29.2 overs. Left-arm orthodox spinner Narun Singh of PBC took six wickets for 17 runs to rekindle hopes of Grenada retaining the championship.
Meantime, Dominica recorded their third consecutive victory in the tournament with a seven-wicket win over St Lucia.
St Lucia made 144 for 8 off 50 overs and Dominica replied with 147 for 3 in 34.1 overs.
Grenada must now beat Dominica in the second round, which begins on Sunday, to stay alive in the tournament.
